Lotus Brings Ethos Plug-In Minicar into Production

Aside from their stunning presence, superb design, and envious performance, there is one defining feature that every model in the Lotus lineup carries: The letter E. The Lotus Elise, Lotus Evora, and Lotus Exige all feature it proudly as the first letter in their name, and it looks as though the British automaker won't be abandoning this trend with the introduction of their new plug-in minicar, the Lotus Ethos.

The Lotus plug-in minicar was first unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show as a concept. Upon deciding to enter the vehicle into production for the 2013 model year, Lotus began working to find an E-name that fit with the vehicle's demeanor. Honestly, World Imports USA thinks that the name is a perfect fit. It's short, edgy, and to the point, which are all aspects that the vehicle itself embodies.

The Lotus Ethos is currently set to feature an electric-only driving range of 37-40 miles, with a 250-mile gas-powered driving range as well. This is made possible through a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine that works in conjunction with the vehicle's electric powertrain. Over all, this combination produces a total of 67hp (50kW), and it allows the Lotus Ethos to travel from 0-60 miles per hour in under ten seconds, with a top speed of 76 miles per hour.

So far, the upcoming Lotus Ethos has only been confirmed for distribution in the U.K., but many auto blogs and insiders are claiming that the Ethos could be heading for U.S. shores as well. For now, we'll simply have to wait to hear more from Lotus on the matter.
