Lotus Exige S Put to the Test

Even if much of the recent news about Lotus doesn't sound overly positive, it's important to remember that many new Lotus models as well as previous versions of the sports cars are looked to as benchmarks in style and handling by automakers around the world. That's evident in the 2012 Lotus Exige S.

The newest version of the performance vehicle has gained more power, speed and size, staying true to the unique look and feel of Lotus vehicles, which was lauded in a recent video review and test drive by Drive's Chris Harris. Taking the vehicle out on the track we can see the Exige S owns a tight grip of the road, can take it up to top speeds, and handle just about any driving test thrown at it.

Much of the performance is thanks to an array of specs that make the Lotus Exige S the envy of many of the upscale sports cars on the market. It starts with the frame of the vehicle, which comes in at 2,200 pounds. Under the hood the Exige is powered by a 3.5-liter supercharged V6 that has a minimum of 350 horsepower, with zero-to-sixty sprint time of 3.8 seconds, and a top speed of 167 miles per hour.
