With Volkswagen now producing twelve different configurations of their venerable Volkswagen Golf, there is a good chance there is a trim level that will appeal to you. The Golf is vying for the top prize with eight other models, and trying to win its second European Car of the Year title in its illustrious history. Back in 1992, the Golf won the whole thing, and it's placed in the top three six times since the award's creation in 1964, the highest among all new Volkswagen models.
In the 48-year history of the European Car of the Year award, VW has had 14 vehicles finish in the top three, with the Volkswagen Polo taking the top spot back in 2010. If you're not familiar with the Polo, it's a European-only mini car that looks a lot like the Golf we know and love.
