The automaker produced another great example of their high levels of innovation as a company with their most recently developed Electric Vehicle Charging Station. Volvo placed a focus on developing this type of technology because they believe that drivers will only demand more and better Electric Vehicle technology heading into the future.
In a series of tests recently, Volvo used a new wireless induction charging system to fully charge an electric Volvo C30 in under three hours. The charging system works by combining charges from induction coils found both on the platform and on the vehicle itself. The C30 is an electric model that has been available in limited amounts since 2011.
Vice President, Electric Propulsion System at Volvo Car Group, Lennart Stegland, explains the benefits of the new Volvo charging system, stating, "The tests demonstrated that our Volvo C30 Electric can be fully charged without a power cable in app. 2.5 hours. In parallel with this, we have also conducted research into slow and regular charging together with Inverto, which was also a partner in the project."1
