A graduate of University College, in London, Anthony Colin Bruce Chapman, built his first race car, the Mark 1 Lotus, in 1948. Four years later, his company Lotus was officially established, and more than 100 Mark VI vehicles, Chapman's first production car, we manufactured. Motivated by a strong passion for motorsports, Chapman eventually reached Formula 1 in 1958.

One of Chapman's mottos that continues to resonate throughout the company is "Simplify, then add lightness." This axiom is especially present in vehicles like the new Exige 350 Sport, for which engineers successfully trimmed more than 50 kilograms from the final curb weight, allowing for a truly elite; nimble, yet powerful; driving experience.

On December 16, 1982, Chapman passed away at the age of 54. However, his legacy lives on in the company's logo, in the form of his initials, A, C, B, C.
