The Hethel Performance Hub is a new facility located at Lotus Cars’ Norfolk headquarters, designed to collaborate and partner with other car manufacturers, technology firms, academic institutions, and motorsport entities. Lotus has a long history of consulting with OEMs worldwide and, during the 1990s, was arguably responsible for producing more engines than any other organisation. This legacy has now been revitalised through the Hethel Performance Hub.
The Hub is already operational, with active engineering and manufacturing projects taking place at Hethel. Its partners include a UK-based performance car brand, an international electric vehicle manufacturer, and a European low-volume vehicle producer, showcasing the wide range of activities in engineering, component supply, and complete vehicle development.
The facility’s goal is to develop efficient methods for bringing automotive concepts into production.
In the high-performance and niche automotive sectors, innovation is often limited by costs, lack of scale, and fragmented expertise. The Hethel Performance Hub is designed to overcome these challenges.
This launch is part of a larger development phase at Hethel, aiming to establish the facility as a “globally recognised centre for high-performance innovation and its specialist low volume production.”
Matt Nice, Deputy Managing Director of Lotus Cars, stated: “Hethel Performance Hub is about unlocking the full potential of what exists here. We’re leveraging world-class capabilities—engineering, manufacturing, motorsport—and transforming them into a platform for partnership. Importantly, it’s not just about access; it’s about bringing the right people together. By creating an environment where partners can collaborate, develop, and deliver side by side, we enable a faster, smarter way to innovate in a sector where traditional models often slow progress.”
