On 30 August 1965, Brands Hatch was the venue for the British Eagle Trophy, a significant Formula 2 event in the late-season British racing schedule. This type of race helped establish the category's reputation in the mid-1960s: held at a major circuit, featuring a strong lineup, and including drivers whose reputations extended beyond Formula 2.
The focus of that day was Jim Clark, who raced the Lotus 35-Ford Cosworth SCA for Ron Harris - Team Lotus. He won the race and recorded the fastest lap, achieving a result that reflected both his skill and the high standard of the event.
Viewed in this context, the photograph captures the event as it truly was: a late-summer Formula 2 race at Brands Hatch, featuring a top-tier driver and a performance that was fully representative of the competitive spirit of the era.
