The Fiat 500 Jolly Story

The Fiat 500 Jolly was conceived in the mid-1950s by Fiat boss Gianni Agnelli to create a beach car based on the Fiat 500. Agnelli wanted the vehicle carried on the back of his yacht. The project was then turned over to Ghia, where the doors, roof, and windows were all removed. To ensure the Fiat 500 Jolly could maintain its weight, the structure of the body was strengthened, with the front windshield shortened to house the 'Surrey canopy.'

When driving around Ponte Vedra Beach, the driver can fold away the canopy to let in the warm Florida sun. Inside, the traditional leatherette seats were replaced with Wicker seats for more of that outdoor feeling. While the Fiat 500 Jolly layout was considered basic by today's standards, many high-profile celebrities, from Ethe King Elis Pressley to President Lyndon B. Johnson, owned a Fiat 500 Jolly.

The Fiat 500 Jolly was designed with bug-eye headlights to make the front facia pop. Over the years, though, the design of the Fiat 500 Jolly evolved to retain more of the Fiat 500 look, including keeping the original interior. Ghia produced 400 examples of the Fiat 500 Jolly, with the last one delivered in 1966.

Fiat 500 Jolly Performance Specifications

Throughout its nine-year run, the Fiat 500 Jolly was powered by a two-cylinder 500cc rear-mounted engine, developing 17 horsepower and 26 pound-feet of torque. On the move, you can achieve a top speed of up to 60 miles per hour. The power is delivered through a four-speed manual transmission.

Thus, the Fiat 500 Jolly is best suited for discreetly navigating the back roads near Huffman Boulevard Park or Pablo Creek Club. No matter where you go, the Fiat 500 Jolly will surely turn heads and bring a smile to enthusiasts of all ages.
